Extra Resources

The links below take you to online resources that might be of interest to you.

This website contains a number of excellent resources on the impact of childhood trauma on the developing brain.
This is an excellent youtube video which explains this developmental theory in detail.  It's worth understanding some of these theories as they can provide the 'key' to unlocking and understanding the behaviours  we might come across in our work.  Note that there are 8 stages in Erikson's model, so his model doesn't 'dovetail' beautifully into our 5 stage model, but his model is widely regarded as being valid and valuable.
Jean Piaget is another highly regarded theorist, and his model of cognitive development is well worth knowing,  it can really help us to understand why children do what they do.
Yet another highly regarded theory, this time from John Bowlby.  Like the other theories, it can help us to understand what makes people 'tick'.
This webpage, from the NSPCC, uses 6 metaphors to explain how interactions with young children impacts brain development.   Its not a 'theory' or 'model' ... it's just an easy way of understanding how what we do impacts the development of our children's brains.
