57 year old Joe is the father of Tom, and the Grandad of
Briony (13), Ryan (9) and Tonia (3). He
is married to Anna, aged 60.
Joe has been out of work for many years, smokes heavily and
has recently developed a persistent cough.
He also drinks a lot. Joe used to
be a member of the local darts team, and still occasionally goes to the local
pub to support the team. Anna has
recently retired from her part time job as a school dinner lady, the arthritis
in her feet making it too painful for her to continue working. Anna is a
regular church go-er, and likes to take her grandchildren along to mass, but aspart from that, she rarely gets out due to the pain in her feet, and the tiredness she often experiences.
Joe lives with Anna a few streets away from their son and his
family, and so pop round regularly to visit.
When doing so, they regularly help themselves to food. They are unaware that this may be causing
some difficulties for Tom and his family, who rely on benefits to get by.
