This unit, as it's name suggests is all about learning how we understand people in care, and how we go on to support them, having developed an understanding of them as individuals.
Understanding People.
In the context of this unit, when are talking about understanding people, we are talking about understanding where they are in their development, as well as developing an understanding of their life experiences. Only by understanding where they are in their development against the backdrop of their own life experiences and lifestyles can we start to understand how best to meet the needs of an individual.
We will look at 5 'strands' of development, using the acronym SPICE to remind us of what they are, and we will consider some of the main influences lifestyle choices which may have an impact on someone, potentially adversely impacting their development.
Supporting People.
In the context of this unit, this is all about how we meet the needs of the individual AS an individual. We will concentrate on the 'Person Centred' approach, a way of working which keeps the individual very much at the centre of our professional practice, and involved them in their own care.
